Also known as Pienc, Fer Servadou or Carmelin. It is an ancient variety from Bourdeux, especially cultivated in Medoc. It ripens late and it maintains a high acidity. The cluster is small and of small grain, it produces four clusters per vine shoot. Production is more scarce than in the Cabernet-Sauvignon. It produces wines of high tannin concentration, well structured, of intense colour and aroma, giving the wines longevity. There are very few plantations in Spain, though it is one of the emerging varieties.
